There are few supporters of closed adoptions these days, unless knowledge about and contact with birth family members presents a danger to the child; however, there are still placing parents who may find themselves in a position that prevents them from choosing any openness, and there are still adopting parents who want no knowledge and contact.
One of the groups of people within the adoption community that seems reluctant to grab onto the open adoption concept is adult adoptees who grew up very happily and cannot conceive of any improvement openness might have brought to their lives.
